You said "Today, Jesus is in the process of preparing His disciples for His death."

Wrong. He already died and was risen. He wasn't going to die a second time. He was preparing them for the separation.

“Today...” is in reference to today’s gospel which takes place prior to Jesus’ crucifixion and death not today’s Christian disciples.

Your right. I was wrong. Sorry. I thought He said this before His ascension.

Thank you, Phillip, for clarifying.

Sorry for the confusion, Richard. Jesus' crucifixion starts at John 19:16. It -does- sound like something he could say before his ascension; it could fit quite well there.
