This article is excellent--absolutely excellent, and I can't add much more beyond that. I've printed it out so I can re-read it carefully (I tend to absorb words better when I read them offline). I pray this article reaches and touches very many souls!
The missional hermeneutic for approaching Sacred Scripture and the Church is what I prefer... it acknowledges that everything is *not* alright but we have the good news and with this good news of Jesus Christ and His kingdom we can cultivate a virtue of that is authentic positivity.
Scripture really does keep us on track when it comes to the good-news. St. Ignatius gives us definitive principles to discern what that is: as you say the Church and the Scriptures.
Fr. Chris, I can not tell you how much your post resonates with me, and I want to thank you for writing this. I admit I will have to reread a few things, but what stuck out is a concern I think we all have or at least should admit is happening. I will say it's the elephant in the room and how we want to wear a mask while dancing around issues that may ultimately damage the Catholic Culture (if it has not done so already.) I wanted to highlight one of many things in your article, where you write, "today in the Church, it often misuses the term good-news. Such good news typically focuses on accidental realities in the Church that cover up (or put a mask on) the rot and areas where God's judgment zealously appeals to us requesting repentance."

Thank you for serving the Church and the flock.
Thank you Jonathon. Elephants in the room certainly do need to be addressed :)
