Great reflection! It is interesting that many will be willing to say, "Jesus is my Lord" and then pick and choose what we like when it comes to Jesus' teaching. Jesus unabashedly claims the He is God. We should absolutely tremble when we begin to assert our freedom to choose over and above what God tells us. For, when I pick and choose, I make myself God. Again, a wonderful, thought-provoking reflection.
I spent years picking and choosing the words of Jesus, rejecting whatever didn't suit me, and I was even good at putting my spin on His words I did like. However, I did not grow and mature in my relationship with Him. One day a priest said to me, just say a prayer to the Holy Spirit, read a Bible passage, don't think about it. Let the Lord speak to you, feed you. It took awhile to learn how to do this, but in time it proved to be very fruitful!!!
