So the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nailmarks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” (John 20:25, NABRE) My conversion from atheism to Catholicism happened a fairly short time ago. It was not a slow or reasoned conversion. It was instantaneous. One minute I believed in nothing, and a few seconds later, I knew the Truth. I was in a bathroom getting ready for a baseball game. I did not ask for conversion, nor did I want it. Up until that point, I thought faith meant blind obedience and that Christians believed with no logical examination of those beliefs. I had never touched a Bible, contemplated God, explored religions, or studied philosophy.
Lovely witness. Brutally lovely. I was 21 when it happened to me. For 50 years I have had the same conversion reminder experience to get me back on track. Glory be to God!
As a returned Catholic and now a multi-year RCIA team member and coordinator I have never realized that some conversions are very quick, but in looking back one can see the possible instances. Albeit your husband and his family were praying for this to happen.
Thank you for using your gifts to share your conversion experience with us.
