19. The Easter triduum begins with the evening Mass of the Lord's Supper, reaches its high point in the Easter Vigil, and closes with evening prayer on Easter Sunday. (General Instruction on. the Liturgical Calendar). The day of Holy Thursday is NOT part of the Triduum. The Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper begins the tritium just like the Saturday Evening Vigil Masses begin the Sunday Celebration. The Paschal Triduum if Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday. This is clear in the Instruction. Before writing it would be good for people to read the sources.

Fr. Justice, yes. I neglected to specify that the Triduum, according to the OSV source cited, begins on the EVENING Mass of Holy Thursday. I've also tried to make it clearer that the Triduum is a three-day period spanning from then till "Vespers on Easter Sunday." I've made edits to the article to that effect. Unfortunately, I'm not a liturgical expert. My sources must speak for themselves. I apologize for the incongruencies.

Thanks for the explanation Father. You’re right, It is important to make clear that the vigils mark the beginning of the next day liturgically following the pattern of Jewish sundown.

The USCCB clarifies the Triduum as you explained, but when I just did a brief search after your comment, Google does state in large letters that the Triduum begins the evening of Spy Wednesday. which I found odd that Google would be so aware of Spy Wednesday. There is some brief history with Pope Pius' reestablishment of the place of the Easter vigil, which is interesting.

Regardless, John doesn't make any connection with Spy Wednesday as part of Triduum, He does write, "These three days, which directly follow what is commonly called Spy Wednesday." The only real issue is the word " directly" which could be confusing. Your clarification on the distinction between Thursday day and evening does serve this article better.

Thanks for the comment.
