I have learned the hard way that turning the other cheek doesn't mean letting myself be slapped down again and again. It means, as Jenny says, not harboring anger, hate, revenge. We can turn the cheek at a distance by blessing and praying for them continually, but we do not have let back into our lives to be abused again and again. We are actually blessing them by keeping them out of our lives. Though it sounds counter to Jesus' words, it is actually fulfilling His words. Through 'keeping our distance', Jesus is offering them a grace filled moment to reflect on why we are gone from their lives. It is between them and the Lord whether they take advantage of grace filled moments. In short we forgive, bless and pray for them at a distance, let go of them and surrender them to the Lord, letting Him be totally in charge, not us.
