The Contradiction of Interfaith Worship
How Interfaith Programing Illustrates Core Contradiction that all religions "are paths to God."
The Duty to God principle in The Boy Scouts of America, now Scouting America, is a foundational aspect to the Scouting program emphasizing the importance of recognizing the importance of the divine and the truths of the Scout Oath & Law. I suspect that some think interfaith worship is a new development in The Boy Scouts of America in the late 20th century into the 21st century; however, the first interfaith service was held in 1910—the Boy Scouts of America was founded in that year.1 So, the concept is not the Boy Scouts losing their way; but rather, a concept from the beginning days of the organization.
The concept of interfaith worship service raises significant concerns regarding the sincerely held beliefs of many religious communities including Catholics, Protestants, Mormons, Muslims, Jews, and others. The problem with the notion is the inherent contradiction that interfaith worship service present to the core doctrines of these faiths, which can lead to a repudiation of the individual’s beliefs and, ultimately, the seed of apostasy.
