He is a dear Christian brother. I was sufficiently touched by your writing to respond on my phone. Apologies for typos.

Thank you so much for sharing! Yes, daily living with Christ and uniting our sufferings with His brings us and others closer to God. This draws us again to the Book of Acts when we see Paul and Silas singing after they were beaten and thrown in jail. This led to the conversion of the jailer himself and his whole household (Act 16:21-40) The idea of joyfully and willingly embracing our sufferings can be overwhelmingly to think of, but Christ is here to help us every step of the way. As He said, "Come to me, all you that labour, and are burdened, and I will refresh you." (Matt. 11:28)

I have a fear Christian brother who was recently laid off. His response was a period of prayer and fasting without looking for a new position. His response was exactly as you describe; to draw away from his his sins and towards God. I have complete confidence that God will put him where he can be of most use to God’s kingdom. And in this day and she, that is where we all should be.

God shapes those He loves. We actually can make this easier on ourselves if we offer ourselves up to it willingly.
