All I know is, I finally went to confession last Monday after close to 3 years of procrastination and it turned my life around. I will go once a month from now on, just to receive the grace of the sacrament that Jesus gave us for a reason. Thank you , Jesus, for finally giving me the courage

That's wonderful! It truly is a healing, though not easy, experience.

Sometimes people aren't going to confession because they had a bad experience with a past confession. Even if you know the theology, the fear of something like it happening again can make it very hard to walk into those doors.

That’s a good point, and one priests should keep in mind. When that happens, I’d encourage people to go to a different priest if possible

Great article, Dave! Even Socrates leads us to the confessional when he chided us, “The unexamined life is not worth living”. Loved your last line about absolution. Let’s discover objective reality using the sacraments Jesus gave us!

Excellent article! The sacrament of confession has been such an important part of my spirituality but as an Episcopalian, every time I write about it I get other Episcopalians telling me we don't need it. Well, maybe they don't, but I do. I'm glad it's made available by the Church for those of us to whom it is necessary.
