This is the second time in two days I have read about despair being a sin. I am thankful you explained this here, and it is something I think we all need to remember. As you write, "Despair is a sin too, and it is rooted in the notion that God’s grace isn’t available." Thank you Fr. Chris for improving, and encouraging my Christian walk.
Yes, there is a comfort that comes with daring to hope, but when it leads us away from the cross and the need for repentance it amounts to a dangerous form of wishful thinking. One may dare to hope they will not be struck by a car when crossing the road but prudence dictates looking both ways!
