Thank you for this very important post. Sometimes when I think about how crazy and angry the world is at the moment, it can get discouraging and things can feel hopeless. Then I remember that God is not only calling me--as He is all of us--to spread His good news in a world that so desperately needs it, but that I am living in this particular time in history for a reason. God is good. We are indeed the salt of the earth--all for Him!
Two very different portrayals of Jesus capture your comment here very well.
The first is from Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ. Jesus falls before His mother and Mel Gibson puts Revelation 21 in the mouth of Christ at this moment, “I go to make world anew.”
If you catch Missio Dei’s latest podcast in the last 5 minutes I have each one of us do our elevator pitch for the gospel. I said look at the world and the evil that is rampant. But I think we all have a sense of goodness. And I ask people search for the good...look for it. The good is our Lord Jesus Christ.
The second portrayal is from the Chosen. Jesus sees us. And the Chosen does it very well to convey that Jesus sees us in our brokenness and looks at us and loves us.
The simile of light is a reminder that we can’t keep this to ourselves. We need to let others know about Jesus who makes both world and us anew.

I love The Chosen!
Yes. The show does very well in portraying Jesus as divine but also as human and relatable to contemporary audiences.
