All of us start out as sick, in need of Christ’s rest. When His Spirit is within us, He can share the rest that He has from His faith in the Father with us. We receive this rest when we cast all of our care on the Godhead (cf. 1Peter 5:5-7; Philippians 4:6-7; James 4:5-10).

I think of Sundays as a day more for resting in God's love for the world. And today I read in Isaiah 65, "Be glad; rejoice forever in my creation!" So there you have it. A healthy part of Sunday is to get out in God's creation and to rejoice in it.

Your point about healing on the Sabbsth is awesome. Yes, the sick need rest!

All of us fallen ones are sick. We all need rest, especially rest in God. That is why Sabbaths are so important.

Sorry if I was rude in my first comment. Just getting to the point on my phone (I don't like texting, but your essay was important enough to respond anyway.)

Absolutely. The sick do need rest! Which is why if you know a sick person, a Sunday can be the perfect opportunity to help them come to God and find true rest. That is a wonderful way to help someone get out and experience God's creation and rejoice in it (as your above comment mentions).

Sundays are for resting in God, not working to show his love to the world around us. We have six days in the week to be out there doing that.

Good morning Jeff!

I get what you are saying. That is not the point I was trying to get across though. What I mean is that while we do have six other days to show God's love to the world, Sundays are another chance to bring others to Him. These days are not purely for checking church off of the to-do list and then just relaxing for oneself; while that can be important, today's Gospel shows that it's also another chance to bring people to Christ and show them his healing power. The true meaning of the Sabbath is to find rest in Christ's love, so why not show people that he can do that? I don't believe I ever said we must "work" on these days; I meant that it is another chance to reach out and help another experience our Lord.
