In reference to #8: I love to begin the day with one of the psalm antiphons from the Office for Trinity Sunday or the Gloria Patri. It just seems to ground me and put the day into perspective.

One of my favorite things to study is the medieval manuscripts called Books of Hours (e.g. the Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry), which were a way for laypeople to participate in the daily recitation of the Divine Office by priests and religious. I imagine Tolkien was familiar with this devotion as well.
