I didn’t know that but honestly it doesn’t surprise me. A psychology course I was required to take at college really opened my eyes on the terrible influence it has had on society and the profoundly evil things many psychologists have done (Dr. Alfred Kinsey is a particularly sick example).
This exploration of ordo amoris is really powerful. The distinction between suppressing passions versus rightly ordering them cuts through alot of modern confusion about emotion and spirituality. I'd never considered how the Beatitudes functinon as Christ's self-portrait before, but that reframing makes them feel immediately more applicable than just moral instructions. The Sardon quote about purified anger becoming zeal hits especially hard.
Sardon is a recent discovery for me but I’m really enjoying his work, especially as I grow closer to the Byzantine Catholic tradition. Theosis is a truly fascinating concept; it explains all the dogmas and morals of the Church and all of human history through one paradigm of humans desiring to become God but doing so either through God’s grace or by their own power. The goal of the Christian becomes not merely following rules or avoiding sin but being divinized.
Most people don't know that Freud performed an "occult" ritual before injecting himself with liquid cocaine.
