Fascinating dive into Catherine's mystical theology. The lamp metaphor caught my attention because it perfectly captures the paradox of spiritual receptivity needing both expansion upward and contraction downward, something modern spirituality tends to flatten. When working on a projet about medieval mysticism a few years back, I noticed how mystics like Catherine used physical metaphors not as mere allegory but as ontological truth, the heart literaly as seat of soul, which creates a completely diffrent framework for understanding divine union than we have today.
