What about “Lord I am not worthy to receive you, but say the word and I will be healed.” Or “Lord I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and I will be healed.”? Yes, it would be nice if confession was offered an hour before every mass. Also if there were sermons on sin. I feel a great aversion to going to confession. I have though, experienced the grace that comes from the sacrament. I fear the Great Accuser has done a number on me. I fear that I will not be prepared to remember and state all of my sins. I fear that I would not be able to talk to or even look at our priest again. He is human after all. Please pray that I make it to confession (I have been praying this for years) and that I find a confessor to go to regularly. I do believe in the infilling of the Holy Spirit through the Sacraments, and I could see that confession would help me examine my life on a daily basis. It seems to be an orderly way to live life according to His Will.
I understand how you feel, Donna. Confession isn’t easy, but then, neither is sin or its consequences. The Cross wasn’t easy either, but it was good and necessary. We have to trust in God’s infinite mercy. This is also why it’s good for confessionals to have a screen, so that it’s anonymous and there is no shame between priest and penitent. Don’t deprive yourself of the profound relief that God wants to give you in the Sacrament of Penance; for Him, no wound is too deep for His mercy to be unable to heal it, if we will only allow Him to. I will pray for you and I ask you to pray for me also.

Excellent reflection
How I wish Bishops and priests and deacons preached about the necessity of confession
And that they would make it more available. It’s very difficult to get to in my area.
These words moved me very deeply. Hugh from England
