“No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel or sets it under a bed; rather, he places it on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light. For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible, and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light. Take care, then, how you hear. To anyone who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he seems to have will be taken away.” (Luke 8:16-18 NABRE)
It can be tempting to hide our beliefs and faith from others, especially when we fear judgment or some form of persecution. Or perhaps, we don’t necessarily “hide” our faith, but we might not exactly be so forthcoming about it, normally depending on who we’re around.
Yet, the light of faith that we have within us must not be covered or concealed in any way. We must never allow fear or inconvenience to keep us from sharing our beliefs with others. As children of God, we are meant to be the salt of the earth. Yet, we can’t do this if we cower down during moments of opportunity to share our faith.
Imagine if each of the saints had covered or hidden the light within them, they never would have lived the incredible lives they each had!
Each and every saint serves as an example for us today. They were bold in their faith, and confidant and trusting in God as they lived their lives. They didn’t hide their light, but rather, they each shined brightly in very unique ways.
So, follow the examples of the saints! Live out your faith in boldness and confidence, and let your light shine brightly as a child of God.
I think I could and should do a lot better too!
