The Protestant numbering of the Commandments is different from the Catholic numbering. The first two commandments by the Protestant counting is the first commandment for Catholics. Thus, the fifth commandment for Catholics is thou shalt not kill.
Our sinful passions need to be conquered by God. His Spirit lifts them when we are willing to cast them onto Him by unconditionally trusting in Him (cf. Philippians 4:6-7; 1Peter 5:5-7; James 4:5-10). This trust enables our minds to be at rest from them and our excessive preoccupation with the basics of life. God’s peace and strength neutralize our over-attachment to the things of the world, and they prioritize the Kingdom of God in our lives; then, all things will be added to us.
Moving reflection on today’s Gospel. Thank you!🙏
Amen!
The 5th Commandment is Honor your father and mother…which says nothing about taking care of oneself.
The 5th commandment is thou shall not kill.
