In today’s Gospel, we are told by our Lord of the urgent call to repentance. When we hear the kingdom proclaimed to us, it is not something that we can just consider, deciding later which parts we agree or disagree with. There are thousands of Christians denominations nowadays, and they all stem from people interpreting God’s Word in the way that would best fit their personal beliefs. In reality, this was never meant to be the way Christianity would work. We were meant to hear exactly what Christ Himself taught, not what we teach ourselves. We cannot twist His Word to fit our narrative and then decide to follow Him. We are to listen to the Word that has been faithfully passed down through the Church for centuries.
In Matthew 28, we read Christ tell his followers to make disciples of all nations, and this fits perfectly with today’s Gospel. Christ says today that “whoever listens to you listens to me.” We have a duty, as the followers of Christ, to tell other people about Him. We must bear witness to Christ in love; even if our efforts are not received, we must at least try.
