I really needed this today!

Great article, well written. The word Sin and Hell, Devil, which became almost forgotten words during homilies in our beloved church, need to be spoken as used to be. The word Grace is kind of overshadowing the three, making the faithfully thinking that God's Mercy take care of all our wrong doing without us stoping the wrong doing, if you may! Please keep pounding on the three forbidden words, to wake up the us the sinners. May God Bless you and all your work!

We root out those things that draw or keep us away from God by surrendering them to Him; then God’s grace maintains us.

Surrender is definitely an important part of repentance. On our own, it’s impossible to do anything, including turning away from sin. God’s grace is at work in this surrender and repentance, though. He doesn’t wait for us to do the hard work alone before coming in with His grace to maintain what we’ve accomplished; rather, His grace is what calls back to Himself. It’s up to us whether or not to cooperate with this Grace and return through the Sacrament of Penance.

The only thing that is possible for us to do for remedying our inclination to sin is to surrender to God. Other than that, the inclination remains. It’s only hard work if we try to remedy this ourselves before surrender, even with the present form of the Sacrament of Penance. Absolution never absolved me from my inclination to sin. I don’t know of anyone who thought that it would. This is why we are to draw close to God by humility towards Him before He draws close to us.
