Thank you, Phillip! Beautiful reflection. What part of Christ's life is God asking me to emphasize now? Knight, Monk, King, Prophet. What does discernment look like in concrete choices? Contemplative, then missionary. Receive before you act. Sit at the Word, receive the sacrament, let charity take root and grow, and then fight, pray, lead, govern, and speak. Without that sequence, the Knight becomes harsh, the Monk sterile, the King a dictator, and the Prophet self-serving. But with that sequence each vocation breathes from the same Holy Spirit and serves the same end, shaped and sustained by the altar of Christ.
Thanks, Thad. It is is true—we should certainly set a foundation in prayer, practicing the sacraments, & training oneself in the virtuous life. We know this is how sanctifying grace works. BUT God is certainly capable of moving us to action by means of actual grace to go on mission & we need not resist it.
Furthermore, many have interpreted the Mary & Martha passage, we should be mindful there is a hierarchy in the life which we are called in the Church. And those who are called to the contemplative life have received a great grace, but the laborers—the Marthas are still needed to work in the mission field. The only consideration is that us Marthas do so with charity in our hearts for the Marys.
