Lovely reflection here Dr. McGovern. In celebrating John the Baptist, we're reminded of that cardinal virtue: humility. I'm reminded of St. Bernard of Clairvaux: "The three most important virtues are humility, humility, and humility."
John is a figure we cannot look upon without gaining something by him. Not only did he pave the way for Christ, but in many cases, he's paved the way for many to achieve a deeper understanding of the faith.
