I don’t recall that Christ set up His Church for political rule. When the apostles asked Jesus whether He was again going to restore the kingdom to Israel, He told them that it wasn’t for them to know; but that their job was to be witnesses of Him throughout the world. Christ Himself will eventually rule the earth.

If Christ is King and every knee must bow to Him, every individual and nation on earth must submit to His rule through the Church He established. We do not need to wait for Him to come again - he said, "Those who hear you hear Me and those who reject you reject Him who sent Me."

If the present Catholic Church can’t effectively rule itself, how is it going to rule nations? It is not required to rule nations. The Holy Roman Empire came and went. Scripture is clear on who is going to rule the nations of the earth.

If the Catholic Church is in error, Jesus lied and is not God. Weigh that sentiment very carefully. “upon this rock I found my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.”

The verse doesn’t say anything about the Church ruling the earth. Jesus did not lie.
