Wow. Nice to know there are people out there who think as I do. I've been thinking of late about the situation in Europe. Putin and Russia, with their back against the wall, while the God-less Euros who champion LGBT/trans/abortion/crime are attempting to pull them down. This is how I see it. My brother, a liberal, knows only, "Putin INVADED Ukraine." That's it. Doesn't care why, doesn't care to look into the history, doesn't care to look into the Obiden coup of Ukraine. While I see Russia as making a Christian stand against the growing monster state of Godlessness, Euro and U.S.
Getting back to who we 'render' to... I'm torn. I'm a cradle Catholic. I came back a couple years ago (I"m 75). But I cannot yet embrace the faith whole heartedly because of the pope we have and because of other things--Catholic Charities becoming a Government Agency flooding the country with foreigners, Catholic bishops condoning homosexuality... So I also go to a local Cavalry Chapel. I find the people at my Catholic church kindly and well meaning, but uninterested in reading the bible. The Cavalry church folks kindly and mostly-willing to discuss the bible and the differences between the sects. But there are some incendiary types there too, prone to launching into attacks on Catholics and other sects.
Getting back to your main point, yes, what has our government become? Born in Freedom, many have used that freedom to embrace all manner of evil. And now they attempt to force it on others.
I yearn and cry out for God to bring it all to an end. We have proven to be incapable of figuring this out ourselves.
This is certainly much going on that is troubling. Be sure to use a Catholic Bible with explanations of the text and some good Catholic Bible studies such as those Scott Hahn does. While studying the Bible is good, there is very little understanding of the Bible outside of Catholic Sacred Tradition that guides and teaches us its meaning authoritatively. IF anyone could read the Bible and understand it, there would not be as many as 50,000 Protestant denominations, each of which disagrees with the others on matters of doctrine and theology, and all of which disagree with the one true Church founded by Christ and guaranteed by God not to teach error.
But don't lose hope. God will have His way. Don't give up on prayer. We are called by God to be His partners on earth. We must always begin and end in prayer. In between God will call some to active work of various kinds. Not everyone will be called to active roles, but all are called to pray for our nation. Paul reminds us to obey our leaders but only if their laws and edicts are in line with God's laws. However, Paul does say to always pray for our leaders. We continue the good fight and never stop till the very end!
Sobering thoughts Judson. Even more reason to focus on our faith.

God help us!

Well said.
