Gospel
Matthew 11:28-30
Jesus said:
"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."
As I write this reflection, I am waiting in line for Confession, or Reconciliation as it is now officially called. I recall how nervous I was before my first Confession. Cradle Catholics may not realize how intimidating it is for a convert in his 20s who has a lifetime of sins to confess! But, The priest guided me through it all, listened patiently and absolved me of my sins, acting in the person of Christ. As I left the church, I was struck at just how easy it was. I had been carrying around an enormous burden of sins committed throughout my life. Now, I was free!
Of course, I continue to sin and continue to go to Confession, but now I know I have nothing to dread. Every priest is different. Some ask more questions and some give counseling… a few of the best even really give you a lecture! But still, it is so easy. Truly, our Lord’s yoke is very easy and His burden very light. Simply to live as a faithful Catholic, receiving the sacraments and trying to live as God asks is no burden at all. It is true freedom and the most wonderful gift imaginable.

Amen! Spot on! Thank you! I am life long Catholic, and I still get really nervous going to Confession,. Yet once there it is as you say easy and definitely spiritually rewarding, often even enjoyable in terms of feeling 'clean'!
