While the meaning of Christendom has greatly changed throughout the two millennia of the Church’s existence, Christendom shall endure until the end of the world.
Excellent analysis! One remark - a major block of Eastern Christendom did endure beyond the Ottoman conquests - i.e. in the Slavic world with Imperial Russia until the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917. In fact, the Habsburg and Russian Empires together were the final significant traditional Christian confessional states standing - they both lasted all the way until the end of the Great War.
You should also try and have this piece published at OnePeterFive! It would make a fine addition to the post-liberal conversation series Tim Flanders is running there.
Thank you, Daniel! And thank you for making that distinction about Eastern Christendom. In the West, we tend to forget about the beauty of enduring Christendom in the East, so it's good to remember that it actually survived longer there than it did in the West.
Thank you for the suggestion, I'll look into publishing it on OnePeterFive! God bless!
